The African Nova Scotian Justice Institute (ANSJI), a community-rooted organization dedicated to advancing justice and systemic change for African Nova Scotians, sought to deepen its presence in Ottawa by doing more than advocating from the sidelines; it wanted to host the room. The Official Black History Month After-Party was crafted by the St-Aude Advocacy team as an informal, fun, yet high-impact celebratory gathering that drew Cabinet Ministers, MPs, senior staff, and Black community and business leaders to a space that felt real, not performative. From curating the venue and overall vibe to shaping the guest list to ensure the room was filled with the right mix of political, community, and business voices, St-Aude ensured the experience aligned with ANSJI’s values and strategic goals, delivering a night that genuinely landed. Framed as the go-to Black History Month after-party for Ottawa’s political and business circles, it has positioned ANSJI as a convener at the intersection of culture, community, and political influence, rather than a petitioner, and each year the event runs, it strengthens ANSJI’s relationships with federal decision-makers and further anchors the after-party as a trusted fixture on the capital’s calendar.
